EXPANDED POLYSTYRENE ( EPS )
EPS - is produced by suspension polymerisation of styrene impregnated with a low volatile Hydrocarbon. The product obtained is in the form of spherical, translucent glass like beads ranging between 0.6 mm to 2.5 mm dia and are available as regular or flame retardant grades.

When beads are heated to temperatures above 90 degree centigrade, part of the blowing agents dissolved in the beads vaporizes. The vapor pressure causes the softened polystyrene beads to expand 30 to 50 times their original volume. After they are aged to allow air to diffuse into the cells, the expanded beads can be moulded into a coherent mass, the shape of which is determined by the mould. the moulded product is closed cell Polystyrene foam which is rigid and light weight.
